Information

Lake Norman, a manmade Lake, was established in 1960 by Duke Power for the purpose to supply energy to all of the many new industries that were cropping up in the region and was named after Norman Cooke, a longtime Duke Power President. The lake is over 34 miles long and covers 32.750 acres with a shoreline of 520 miles and extends its boundaries over 4 counties which include Mecklenburg, Iredell, Catawba, and Lincoln. The Lake, which has and average depth of 25 feet and gets as deep as 100 feet at some points, has an annual drawdown that begins in September and ends in February with a maximum drawdown of 15 feet.
